AAIMES is an association of higher education institutions of The United Methodist Church or related, unanimously created at a conference of higher education institutions of The United Methodist Church in Africa in September 2014 in Nairobi – Kenya.

Higher education institutions of The United Methodist Church in Africa were brought together, where among several issues they discussed the need to form a common forum to share and share experiences in order to cooperate towards the common goal of strengthening the consolidation of Methodist education in Africa. It was in this perspective that the institutions in question, by mutual agreement, created AAIMES. in Nairobi (Kenya), hosted by the Methodist University of Kenya (KeMU).

The event involved presidents of colleges, seminaries and universities, presidents of boards of directors of higher education institutions and experts in higher education invited by the organization of the event. The meeting focused on the discussion and approval of the AAMIHE Constitution and Electoral Process. As a result of this process, Professor Munashe Furusa (Vice Dean of the University of Africa, Zimbabwe) was elected the first President of the AAMIHE.

The association also elected a Secretary, Professor Kimba Evariste (President of the Methodist University of Kabongo in the Democratic Republic of Congo) and three Vice-Presidents representing each of the official language groups:

  • Professor Stephen Kanyaru – President of the Methodist University of Kenya
  • Professor Teresa Neto – President of the Methodist University of Angola
  • Professor Nathanael Ohouo – President of the Methodist University of Côte d’Ivoire

The event also devoted many sessions to workshops and discussions on fundraising possibilities to benefit Methodist education in the African context.
